One question regarding the 328, but I think most of this type of Ferrari are concerned . I have sometimes difficulties to engage the rear gear. There is some cracks (krrrrr) which is not the type of noise very friendly. I think there is no synchro in the gearbox for the rear gear.
When I put the rear gear, I always go from neutral position to rear. May be I should try : neutral => 1 st gear => rear gear. In that case, may the gears will not crack ?

Do you have some advice ?

Thanks for your advices,

Deni

I had an 328 and the same problem; best advice I could give: first to 1, then neutral and then rear.
Another suggestion: if your 328 is cold, the 2nd gear is a problem. Just shift from 1 to 3. As soon as everything is warm, it will all go well in the normal way

Good Topic! I have the same problem. Sometimes I am just too quick with shifting. I think you must not be in a hurry to shift to rear. Take it slowly. 'feel' gently if it will go in there. If not, just what Roger said, first go again to 1, maybe than back to neutral and than in it. The trouble is, sometimes, you ARE in a hurry, f.i if you want to turn on a road. Hearing that KRRRR is certainly not very friendly. I hear it also if I forget that that position; (total left, forward) is not my first gear, but rear...:(. Ouch!... :o :

I recall with my 1978 308 GTB 2nd and 4th gear could not be used when cold. In my 1988 328 GTS only 2nd is difficult when cold but its no problem to not use 2nd during warming-up. This only improved starting with the F355. Reverese is allways sensative also when the oil is warm. When lifting the clutch and pressing down again before putting in reverse my experience is that you need to wait a few seconds
