LEGENDARY FERRARI ‘PONTOON-FENDER’ TESTA ROSSA EXPECTED TO BREAK WORLD AUCTION RECORD
AT FERRARI LEGGENDA E PASSIONE
RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, announce the most significant and desirable Ferrari to be offered on the world’s auction stage – the legendary 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa (TR).
Expected to set a new world record* for a vintage motor car sold at auction, this exciting car will be offered at RM Auctions’ exclusive ‘Ferrari Leggenda e Passione’ event, May 17, 2009 in Maranello, Italy.
LONDON, England (February 5, 2009) – RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, will present one of the most historically significant and valuable Ferrari racing cars ever offered at auction, the legendary 1957 Ferrari 250 TR (chassis no. 0714TR), when the famed Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event returns to Maranello, May 17, 2009. Held during the final stretch of the famous Mille Miglia retrospective, the exclusive annual event will offer an unprecedented collection of historic Ferraris for auction.
Considered one of the most alluring, competitive and iconic of all Ferrari racing cars, the beautiful and immediately recognizable Scaglietti-designed, ‘pontoon-fender’ 250 TR was produced from 1957 to 1958 during which only 22 were constructed. The Ferrari 250 TRs entered 19 international championship races from 1958 through 1961 emerging with 10 victories and earning them legendary status among discerning collectors, as well as the honor of being one of the most desirable and competitive racing Ferraris ever built.
“This legendary 250 TR is one of the most exciting motor cars ever to be presented in auction history,” said Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe.
“The Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event, now in its third year, is firmly established as the place to sell important road and race going Ferraris, and we are delighted to present this stunning 250 TR at its Maranello birthplace,” he added.
0714TR was extensively campaigned in its day with significant finishes at the world’s most important racing events and is now being offered at auction for the first time. The car is resplendent in its period race-correct black livery and red nose.
In December 1957, this car was delivered to its first owner, racing driver and future coachbuilder, Piero Drogo in Modena, Italy. Drogo debuted the car as a privateer in the celebrated 1000 km Buenos Aires in January 1958 with a respectable fourth place finish competing with such legendary drivers as Phil Hill, Peter Collins, Wolfgang von Trips and Olivier Gendebien. Following entries in the Grand Prix of Cuba and Portugal, the car was sold by American Ferrari agent Luigi Chinetti to Texas rancher and entrepreneur Alan Connell whose competitive driving skills and affluence afforded him several wins on the 1959 North American racing circuit. 0714TR continued its prowess on the track with subsequent owners and competed in its last professional race in June 1963 at the Elkhart Lake 500.
The Ferrari 250 TR has become an enduring and exceedingly valuable classic whose soaring lines and sculptural elegance give it a sense of speed even when standing still. The legendary s/n 0714TR is by far the most campaigned of the 250 TR cliente series cars with a fascinating ownership and racing history, establishing its rarified place in the collector world as one of the most beautiful and valuable Ferraris ever offered in auction history.
Also 365 GTB/4 Daytona Competizione #16363 will be sold
What a beauty that Testa Rossa! Totally awesome, that black color with the red nose (reindeer). I am very curious what it will fetch ! :D

I can hardly wait to visit the auction this year. Hopefully it will be just as exciting as last year when the California sold for a very "nice" amount of money... ;
I don't see a complete list of lots yet on their website. Also curious for the memorabilia on sale.

Ah, you will be there too? So will I, together with three other Dutchies!
How about meeting in the evening for a beer or two (or three) at the "Made in Red" bar on Maranello´s central piazza?
Ciao,

Haha, yes - three of them: Leon, Wouter & Kjell. They will fly from NL to Italy and rent a car there, while I will drive to Maranello myself from Munich per R32-express (the Brennerpass is great fun when there's little traffic around). I'd like to come already on Friday, but I'm not sure yet if I can have that day off. Otherwise I'll start very early Saturday morning. Hotel of choice will be Domus.

new entries:
1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Series I Competizione Spyder 0414 MD

1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta (Tour de France) 0563 GT
RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, will lift the gavel on an exceptional, race-bred 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 (chassis number 0858) when the highly anticipated Ferrari Leggenda e Passione event returns to Maranello, Italy next month.
Regarded as one of the greatest sports-racing prototypes ever designed by Ferrari, the fiercely competitive 330 P4 is one of only three P4s ever built. This example has a distinguished racing pedigree including a win at the 1000-kilometre Trofeo Filippo Caracciolo in Monza and a third overall finish at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967. The car has been driven by such legendary names as Lorenzo Bandini and Willy Mairesse, while Jackie Stewart and Chris Amon famously took the car to second place in the British BOAC International 500 at Brands Hatch, clinching the World Championship for Ferrari in the process. Significantly, its offering at the May 17 event marks the first time it has come to market in 38 years.
“With only three original P4s ever built, to say this car is rare is an understatement,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe. “There is tremendous excitement surrounding 0858’s appearance at our Maranello auction. Its offering represents a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the most important race cars ever created and a highly desirable piece of Scuderia Ferrari racing history. The addition of this historic car to the auction builds on the already mounting anticipation for the event, which is now just under a month away,” adds Girardo.
0858 has a significant provenance with a well-documented international racing career spanning a number of different continents from Australia to South Africa and Europe. For the past 38 years it has been under the care of its current owner, during which it has only be shown at very few exclusive events in the United States, including an appearance at the Rolex Monterey Historic automobile races in 1995 and again in 2003.
The legendary 1967 Ferrari 330 P4 will join an unprecedented selection of important road and racing Ferraris when RM Auctions, in association with Sotheby’s, present Ferrari Leggenda e Passione, May 17 in Maranello, Italy. Now in its third year, the single-day event is the only auction dedicated to the Ferrari marque, held within the factory grounds and endorsed by the Ferrari factory. With 34 historic Ferraris all certified by Ferrari Classiche, and three Maseratis set to cross the block, this year’s historic line-up eclipses RM’s previous two record-breaking Maranello collections.

In the 1980's I saw a few pics of the Walter Medlin warehouse.
This was one of the very best! He also had 0844 sitting in front of it!
Please let the new owner don't overrestore it!!!

Love the P4! What about the rumour there will be a Kroymans Ferrari on sale?
That's no rumour, it's in the catalogue and a few post above:
1954 Ferrari 500 Mondial Series I Competizione Spyder 0414 MD
Bought by Kroymans at an auction in Monterey 1998
