Dear Ferrari enthusiasts
Recently I could fulfil my goal of owning my own Ferrari. I’m the proud owner of a Mondial QV 1983. Motor, exterior, interior are more than perfect. The electricity however isn’t. I checked all the fuses, placed a new battery. So the basic things are being done. Every time I go for a (perfect) drive it’s a surprise if the windows, lights, blower, windshield wipers, etc, etc will work. I also have to see if the mondial will start. To be short: the electricity is a mess.

Has anyone from you experienced the same. I’m looking for good advice on how to approach this situation. What’s the best next step for someone with a ''normal'' budget.'Are there car-electricity specialists or can I go into it myself?

Looking forward to your reactions
Best regards
Marc Verheijen

You mention a lot off problems, not only your windows, but also your wipers, the blower etc. You chequed the grounding of the battery, min (-) is grounding? It also can be your contact, or your antitheftsystem. If so, it will be a puzzle I guess. I suggest a Bosch Car Service, they are the electricity specialists, or I can recommend my specialist, Italauto in Achterveld, Kees van Stokkum for an advice. info@italauto.nl

dear Kees
Thank you for your reply. Do you have any experience yourself with a bosch-car-service garage. Although originally specialised in electrical issues I thought the Bosch car service imperium is nowadays a relative ordinary type of garage with roughly 300 locations in the Netherlands. Or is this Bosch car service still very focussed on car-electricity?
I have no experience with Italauto. Of course I'm aware of their 'status'. Do you think they appreciate these kind of questions by mail of a non-client (at least a non-client at this moment...)

best regards
Marc

Dear Marc,

As far as I know is Bosch leading in the electrical business, it's or Bosch or a Ferrari workshop and then you pay a lot of money.
So if I was you i should give it a try, and Iatalauto will be happy to help you out, customer or not. You can also phone them, Pieter Pfeiffer, 0342 451933. Maybe it's a simple thing that causes your problems. In my 328 I never had a problem like you, but maybe it's a common problem with the Mondial and easy to solve.

Kind regards, Kees.

Marc, behind your fuse box there is a white plastic connector somethimes this connector is loose or dirty, clean this and fit it ferm together.
Check also the output from your alternator.
hope this wil help.

dear all
the cleaning continues
by now I have the idea that i've cleaned alle the contactpoints that I can find under the hood
What i've found out is that the battery is 'leaking'electricity even when I shut off the Ferrari main electricity 'key' near the battery. What can that mean? Can it has something to do with the grounding (aarding)?

Hi Marc,

Are you coming to the F-chat meeting at Zwijndrecht this sunday? I am really interested to see your car. No doubt there will be a few technical people who can maybe help you with your electrical difficulties.

I am looking forward to see you again, you have played a role in my 308! I am planning to be present at the start of the meering. In the afternoon I will go to Zuid-limburg to visit family.

I will see you sunday?
Regards
Peter van Wijk

Marc,

One of the problems when there is " leaking electriciti " its the switch near the battery or
the Alarm installation.

Just remember that electrical components contain smoke. And when the smoke leaks out, they quit working. I've witnessed it in action.

Rob
what do you propose:
completely replace all the connections and the main electricity switch near the battery
or do you have another suggestion?

Marc,
what I mean is only clean the connections with a sandpaper.
some mondials have a bad reputation regarding the whole fusebox unit.
another suggestion is check the whole fusebox unit for loose weldings contacts by your self or you can contact Guus van Eijk in Alblasserdam.he is a friend on this site.

Hi,

I have 1989 Mondial T, that had a lot of electrical problems
when I just bought it.
Specially with the airco, vent systems and head/fog lights
After a complete inspection of the electrical system
it seemed that the multipole ( white ) connector that
hooks op all electricity to the fuse box had melted
a bit, in the place where this connector is soldered on the pcb
of the fuse box.this caused some wires in the cable tree to melt togheter
with al kinds of problems as result
Only good solution was to replace the complete fusebox
and the connector of the cabletree and parts of the cable tree,
was a lot of work ( and new fusebox was not cheap )
but I have never had any such problems anymore ( now 6 years ago )
not sure about you're Mondial but electrical problems
whith the fuse box are very common with the T version
( and 348--this has the same components--)
also I now here simular things about the 550Maranello

It seems that the disigners miscalculated abit and used
thinner wiring and componnents than acctually needed

hope this helps finding you're problem
